James Marsters Q&A appearance at Halloween 2004 London

It was obvious from the first sight of
James that he relishes conventions and meeting the fans. He shakes hands with
everyone and makes eye contact, also saying a few words to everyone. From
his Q & A sessions it became apparent that acting is James's passion closely
followed by music. He gave us an 'eeyore' impersonation from his first
ever acting role (school play), spoke at length about theatre, Shakespeare and
whether he wanted to come to the London stage. He gave advice about surfing the
net passed on by a friend 'have two machines, on for surfing and one for private
information' and said that he didn't read 'the stuff' out on the web, he wanted
to keep his ego in check. Without a pause he gave the accurate definition
of 'effulgent', and is clearly a well read and intelligent man.
I had not heard any Ghost of the
Robot recordings and apart from OMWF, never heard James sing. It was a
brave man that stood on the stage to do his first solo acoustic set (for
some considerable number of years he said) and after just a teensy first
note wobble he found his confidence and did not disappoint. I really
enjoyed the songs and it shows that his talent is not restricted to acting.
He was very complimentary about my
portrait which he autographed and all in all he was delightful to meet
(briefly) and
I look forward to his next appearance in the UK.
